The Southwest

As long as I can remember, I have loved the outdoors.  Perhaps it's because my first memory as a child is at the Grand Canyon.  That's why it was such a pleasure to travel with the 42 Extension students and see the Canyon reflected in their faces.  It was a memorable experience seeing these beautiful women looking at the view from the south rim and knowing that this canyon is also a symbol of their own struggle and success with English.

I looked down on the Colorado river and remembered that it was the constant and patient continuation  of force that allowed the Grand Canyon to form.  Over time, and with determination, anything can be achieved.  I saw this same determination and spirit in the eyes of our students.

It was a lovely moment to realize that these 42 women were looking down on a scene so representative of thier own language learning.  I was moved.
